Message from the Principal

A brand new school year is here, and with it comes endless possibilities for growth, discovery, and achievement. Just like in the movie Up, each of us—students and adults alike—carries dreams, goals, and incredible potential ready to soar. Our theme this year is: “Chargers, Let Your Dreams Take Flight!”

At Baker Elementary, we believe that every scholar is capable of greatness. Whether they are learning to read, exploring science, solving math problems, making new friends, or building resilience through challenges, every step they take matters.

Each day presents a new opportunity to take flight—both academically and socially—and we are committed to lifting one another up as we grow together.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that all students can achieve at high levels when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities. This includes:

Targeted interventions that meet students where they are and help them reach where they’re meant to be.
Social-emotional supports that ensure every child feels safe, valued, and seen.

Dedicated staff community that collaborates as a team to make learning meaningful and joyful for all.

I invite you to join us—families, guardians, and community members—as we inspire our scholars to reach new heights. Let’s make this a year of purpose, growth, and powerful learning.

Let your dreams take flight, Chargers—we’re in this together!

In partnership,
Leticia McCorkle
Principal, Baker Elementary

  • Here are a few tips to help your child achieve their full potential:

    • Establish a consistent homework routine: Designate a quiet, well-lit space for homework and set a regular time for its completion.
    • Encourage reading: Read with your child daily, even for just 15-20 minutes. This helps develop vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading.
    • Limit screen time: Set reasonable limits on television, video games, and other electronic devices, especially during study time.
    • Celebrate effort and progress: Focus on your child's hard work and improvement, rather than just grades.
    • Ensure adequate sleep and nutrition: A well-rested and nourished child is better able to focus and learn.
    • Communicate with the teacher: Use ParentSquare to stay in regular contact with your child's teacher to discuss their progress, address any concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support their learning.
  • ParentSquare
All schools in our district use ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text, and app notifications.

ParentSquare automatically syncs with our student information system to generate an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.

ParentSquare is a safe, secure, and modern approach to communication and collaboration between school and home. Learn more and get started today by viewing our ParentSquare web page.
