Preparing for a Potential Separation - Reminder of Immigration Resources Available on our District Website

Posted Date: 6/12/25 (7:37 PM)

A question we frequently get is, “What should families do to prepare for a potential separation?”

Our district's Immigration & Family Resources page launched this past January contains this and more information at

There’s a TWO things that our families can do and keep in mind to prepare for a potential separation

1) First, it’s important to update your student’s emergency contacts through the Aeries Parent Portal via the free app (on iOS in the Apple Store or on Android via Google Play Store) or online at: https://mountainviewesd.asp.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx

Make sure to include additional authorized adults who can pick up your child in case you are unavailable for any reason.

2) Second, you can consider preparing either a Caregiver Affidavit or a consent to exercise education rights document. These documents can be found at our district’s Immigration & Family Resources webpage at: https://mtviewschools.com/immigration-familyresources, under “Create a Safety Plan.” They are available online in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese AND in front of each of our school sites and District Offices, starting today.

These documents can help ensure that your child’s educational needs are met and that the designated caregiver has the authority to make necessary decisions on your behalf.

Neither of these documents give up your custodial rights as a parent.

Finally, submit a copy of these documents to your school office, keep a copy in a safe place at home or with your designated authorized adult, and upload all of those documents to a secure cloud-based service, like Google Drive.

This ensures that your important information is easily accessible and protected, even if the physical copies are lost or damaged, and you can reach them anywhere that you can get internet or Wi-Fi.

By taking these steps, you can help ensure your child’s safety and well-being in the event of any emergency or a separation.
